I had 6 hatch out over the weekend (click here to read post) and now we have 4 eggs left in the bator, I am curios if we should toss them. I think we are going to at the very least, candle them to see if we can see any movement. I candled these eggs right before lockdown and they all showed movement. do you think they were quitters? I don't here any peeping coming from them like I did from the others.

so I guess my question is ( if we can't see anything from candling them) how long do we wait? they were due last night btw

Hope you get an answer soon ! I am on day 25...5 hatched...went to candle the rest before throwing away and the first one I candled had movement inside !!!!! EEEKKKK ! What to do, what to do? I'M SO LOST!

well I think I am going to turn the bator off and give up on these last four. I don't here any peeping from them and no pips or anything. I wish one or two more had hatched. oh well guess I'll order more than I planned!

Crack them open and see what happened (OUTSIDE). Sometimes a full formed chick can't get out of the egg due to humidity or not enough air circulation. If they are were fully formed when you crack them open, then you know what could have been the problem.

the last time I candled them (right before lockdown) they all had movement and I marked them for it. so maybe they were just too weak.

what's the best way to crack them open other than the obvious?

My last one just hatched last night...day 27 !!!
Candled it on day 26 showed movement....someone on here told me I should toss em after that long...went to candle it again last night and it had pipped...I SHRANK WRAPPED IT...Had to do an emergency egg peel...lol..."lucky" is great today...moved in with the other 5 in the brooder this afternoon...eating and drinking and pecking everyone......SIT ON HANDS AND WAIT...Congrats and Good Luck !

holy cow, at day 27! sure it was a chicken not a guinea? lol

yesterday I was sure to candle them all and none showed any sort of movement, and one had a detached air cell. so I took it out side and gently opened them, and they had all quit before the yolk was fully absorbed. they were all fully formed it seemed, didn't notice any deformities. one was really young, one looked like it's insides were on the outside. all in all I think we had a decent hatch for first timers.

-we started with 21 eggs on day one
-on day 14 we candled all of them and tossed the ones that must not have been fertile
-on day 17 we candled on last time to see movement and progress
-ended up with 10 at lockdown
-6 hatched out of the ten, and they are lively and drinking and eating

thank you everyone for helping us get through our first hatch!
