People(not all, but fans of said teams) pay the owners LOTS of money for a seat to sit in and watch the Players play. If those that cant get seats want to watch they pay cable companies LOTS of money (some of which is again given to owners of the teams so they can hire good players)
Also in most cases anyone who drinks/smokes/gambles pays SIN taxes which is given to Cities that use said monies to built Stadiums for the owners to have thier teams play the sports in.
