Yes, you kind of need to decide what direction you want to go... Can only speak for myself, but for pets and just being a small breeder, Silkies, purebred or not, can't be beat...
I really think the mixes are kind of prettier, because they have bred the purebreds to have so much feathering on their head and beards that you can't even see their faces anymore, which is kind of sad. I have to wonder if they can even see out?

I checked out Whispering oaks and some of their birds look a lot like mine

If it is a decision between them and the other roosters I would pick the Silkie cross roosters for sure. I have a couple bantam cross roosters and even though I have to separate them so they don’t kill each other they are never aggressive to me. I have had trouble with larger breeds becoming aggressive with me and a little too aggressive with the hens as well.
