So this is weird... (very odd egg)

Soft shell, very malleable, with attached string. My (24 week old BO) chickens have just started laying, within the past couple weeks. I'm sure this is from a new girl laying, likely her first one, yet I haven't come across one like this - I did have one soft shelled egg, but not with the attachment. What caused this to happen?

When they first start, it often takes a while for all the processes to get lined up and working correctly. Even afterward, you get the odd one here and there. Unless it happens all the time, it's nothing to worry about. It's biology and while it's a wonderful thing, it aint perfect, LOL. Ours are 10 months old and have been laying regularly for 5 months now...we got a shell less egg from one just yesterday.
