So ticked at neighbor's & dogs

Just a word of warning regarding the use of paint balls on pets- you may be charged with animal cruelty if someone sees you doing this or finds out it's you doing it. People get terrifically offended if you shoot up their dogs with paint balls. I guess they are fine with their dogs getting hit by a car or poisoned, but paint balls are cruel. Ridiculous.

Sorry about your troubles. Loose dogs are a pain.

I'm learning this lesson myself with my neighbors' dogs. They have 12, which is 4 times the legal limit. they dig under the fence and wander into my yard on a regular basis. st first I'd take them back and ask them to fix the fence. all they'd do is throw down some rocks or wood to block the hole(which never lasted). I tried just about everything short of getting out the bb gun, but they kept on coming back. so now, my plan is to take the dogs that come over to the pound. eventually they'll get tired of springing them, plus they're afraid of the authorities knowing how many dogs they have, so hopefully that will fix the fence once and for all.

I live in a more suburban area where it's easier to catch a dog in a fenced yard. and the dogs I'm catching are small and non-threatening. so in your case, I would definitely suggest having animal control come out, they're better equipped for catching bigger, potentially dangerous dogs.

Good luck to you! I know how frustrating it is being inconvenienced by someone else's irresponsibility

I hate to add fuel to a fire but please remember the dog is just being a dog and it is cruel to hurt the dog if it is not harming anything. I just posted a few days ago about the nieghbors dog being in my yard circling my chicken yard but I am not angry at the dog I am ticked at the stupid owners who let their dog run loose in the neighborhood. I would never hurt an animal unless it was going to or in the act of harming one of my aniamls or a person. It is not the dog's fault the person who owns him/her is stupid and not responsible for their animal. You never know when that dog is a small child's best friend and to kill a child's dog is a very low thing to do. I do agree with defending your animals but just to kill the dog because you can is lame.

Yeah, I know about that. I am planning to discuss the situation with animal control so I know what is considered cruelty BEFORE I take any such measures. I don't really want to hurt the dogs (or I would have already shot them). What I think is cruel is turning them loose to be poisoned, shot, or hit by a car. It would be far more humane to have them put down at the pound. I was sick for the neighbor when he lost his first dog to poison, but if it happens again, I blame the owner as much as the poisoner.

Yes, it is the owner you should be angry with. Maybe you can shoot the owner with the paintball gun

We live out in the sticks and have had issues with neighbors and loose dogs... so I understand your frustration.

It is not only dogs, any loose animal and unsupervised children can be a problem. Cats love to dig in gardens and do their buisiness, kill birds at your feeders etc... My parents have a neighbor who thinks it is ok to let their chickens, guinee hens and even a few peacocks roam into their yard and dig up the gardens etc... My mom is a serious gardener and I have told her several times it looks like dinner to me. All animal owners need to be responsable caretakers of their animals or else not have them. I wont comment on the children...

The 'dog at large' law lets you file on them every time YOU SEE THE DOG LOOSE. You don't have to catch it; just go the the judge's office and file against them. They may not care about their animals but I bet they care lots about their money.

A dog circling your chicken pen IS a threat to your chickens. A scared and freaked out chicken will panic and often hurt themselves or break their neck trying to get away. The dog doesn't actually have to bite the bird to hurt it.

I don't advocate killing my neighbors' dogs. But where I live a lot of dogs get dumped out by people who no longer want them. The dogs are a hazard to other dogs, pets, kids, driving (you ever run into a 65 pound dog going 55 miles an hour?!?!), chickens, etc etc......Those are the dogs that get shot around here. Otherwise they get run over, starve, coyotes eat em or they die from the heat and no water. I would rather be shot than those alternatives. Animal Control will not come out and do anything about it. They have told us this more than once.
