So we are probably getting a hurricane what to do

You did the right thing! I am 220 miles inland and we are getting pounded. We weren't supposed to get anything but showers, but the wind got so bad that it ripped my carport canopy over my yard equipment to shreds and blew it across the yard. We got three inches of rain in about an hour.

I went out to check on my six week old babies after the worst was over and they are terrified. They are safe and dry, but very scared. No way I can bring them in. I don't have a garage. Even my big girls are frightened and upset. I know I won't be sleeping any again tonight.

You will know your babies are safe and not scared of the storm! Better safe than sorry.

We've been getting it bad all day....I woke up at 6:30 to terrible winds and some rain. It's rained off and on all day and the wind pretty much hasn't stopped at all. I filled up food and water for my big ones outside in their coop and made sure the door was closed. My 2 "babies" (11 weeks old) on my porch/florida room are scared. Every time my husband or I go out to check things out they are yelling....Poor girls. But, they are dry and safe!! And from what I hear it's supposed to start slacking off here in about 2 hours. We haven't had power since 11AM but do have a generator going for computer, light, and TV...not that we get signal now, but we've got some netflix going using my husbands cell

Guessing we'll be without power for a while....last I heard there's over 639,000 in VA alone without power. Hope everyone elses babies are okay!

so funny as soon as I read the last post about VA losing power our power went out! HAHA - came back on 2 minutes later - but we'll probably loose it again tonight. Well heading to bed as not much more I can do anyways.

I am watching the news all day here in Atlanta where it is hot and dry...we are all thinking of everyone in the path.... Very worried for everyone no matter how big or small the storm gets.

Please be safe everyone and for those with babies or hatching I hope the power stays on....thinking of you all...stay safe!

well its been going for awhile now, finally landed in nyc around 9am, its well passed the halfway point now, the coop i build apparently can withstand a tropical storm/cat 1, so i guess my first time building anything was a success. We still have power here, i know a lot of people that dont have anything. I'm just glad i was right and it wasnt a cat2 by the time it got here.

Everyone in our house made it through the storm without problems. The chicks were so happy to be back in their coop on Sunday afternoon. It was damp outside and the ground was squishy, but it pretty much had dried up by late afternoon.

We are still without power - lost it at 8:30pm on Saturday when the tropical storm winds started hitting hard. The coop was undamaged! YEAH! It had a little water at the doorways, but otherwise was fine. However - our tree next to it didn't do so well. I'm also glad I didnt leave them out there b/c our neighbor's tall walnut tree is leaning at a 50degree angle towards the coop & our backyard. He has it propped now for stability and will have it removed as soon as possible - but it could very well have fallen and damaged the coop. We didn't have much damage. A few things here and there. Some shingles, pool siding and bushes/trees uprooted. My only regret was the beautiful old redbud tree is gone and so is our shade for sitting and watching the chicks

A neighbor has a generator and he's graciously letting us piggyback for power - so we have the fridge plugged in and a fan. I'm checking emails/FB and of course BYC forum!
