so we bought some BO pullets about 2 months ago (about 12 wks old?) , and we just assumed they were BOs... they look like BOs, are fairly gentle, and were definitely all pullets... no worries...

then yesterday, i was giving them some treats and noticed one of them has distinctly yellow legs!! the other 3 all have the whitish-pinkish looking normal BO legs... and this one has VERY yellow legs! i don't know how we missed that all this time!

we were assuming these chickens were bred/raised by the people we bought them from... they were definitely raised together, as they all roost in one big heap of buff feathers, but maybe they ordered them and accidentally got a buff rock? if i knew for sure that they were bred by these people, i would just assume she is a poor quality BO... but if that were the case, wouldn't the others have at least SLIGHTLY yellowish legs?

So is my chicken a poor quality BO or a buff rock!? (sorry the pics are not so good, i had to dig through the photobucket to find some of this particular chicken)

My BOs had yellow legs for awhile and then they lightened up so they may change too, but I am only going by my hatchery chicks...

it might still be a BO, but what confuses me is the others have very white/pink legs and never had yellow legs...

anyone else?

this has gotten me really curious!

Im sorry to disagree with the others, but buff opringtions never have yellow legs. If they do, they are not pure BO. The yellow will fade to a lighter yellow. Buffs should have pink legs to start with and then they will be white, with pink down the sides. My guess is that this bird is possibly a rock.

that's really interesting.....2 of my 1st buffs have very yellow legs and 2 have the lighter legs. I didn't know that buff orpingtons only have whitish legs. I am learning all the time!
I do know that a second batch of [supposed to be true BOs], all of them have the white legs.
thanks for the info, I did wonder about the 2 yellow legged ones but they all came from the same person and we just assumed they were the same.
