My Giant/Polish (Miss Wendy) started laying 4 days ago - on the coop floor, run etc.... I had boarded up the nesting box area to prevent the girls from sleeping in it. I unboarded it two days ago and put some wooden eggs in there. The next morning there was another little addition in there as well. Only one day and she picked right up on the egg laying spot - such an awesome girl!! Just had to share with everybody!

i checked my hens yesterday to see if any had left me a surprise yet

i open up the roof and look in and 4 of the hens come waddling out of the nesting box .... no eggs .... but they looked very suspicious

Some birds are just bigger in the brain department. And then are some that never seem to "get it".
You are very lucky to have a smart one. Congrats.

Good for you!! I had one figure it out in one day too! It was pretty cool. A RIR that was the first to lay. Two others that started right after took her lead & laid in the box from day one, yay!!!

Now, I have an EE that is laying beautiful olive eggs, but she can't seem to figure out they go in the box. The other day she plopped one out right in front of me as I was reaching over her to pick a different one off the ground. Now THAT was pretty wild!!

I use the golf balls too, but two of them are still having trouble

And of four boxes, of course they all use one! Though today my hubby said at lunch there was one in a different box, along with one on the ground! Sheesh!
