I read somewhere that it takes 1/4 of an acre to pasture 100 heavy breed chickens.
We have been considering raising some chicks like that. I do have about 175 chicks that are locked up at night, but free range all day every day, if they want to. There are about 20 that never come out of the coop. Other than those few, I have chicks everywhere!!! They come running every time they hear DH's or my voice! We can't walk for them under out feet. It is so cute to see a large group of them following us.
They are in one of the places that also houses horses, so they get their fill of horse manure. They range out a good distance, I have seen them way down the hill about 500 feet from their coop, and they are now coming to the house. I don't need more chicken poop on the porch!!
