Gilklevolk................I take great comfort in the fact that whatever you vote for in this great and free country, my vote will be the exact opposite.

and I take greater comfort in knowing that you do............

I disagree that the USA is broke, we are, in fact, awash in cash.
The only problem, is it is concentrated into the hands of about 1000 citizens.
the other 309 million of us, well, yes, we are broke.

That's funny.
I guess it depends on what you consider "broke".
I don't have cable or satalite tv, a new car, or i phone......but by no means do I consider myself "broke".
I have a hard time taking serious the 99% and OWS protesters that complain as they type on a laptop or comunicate on their iphone that cost over $100 per month in service. That's not broke...that's just not being very good w/ $$$ or what you consider a necessity. My family lives w/in it's means. We make choices....like sending my son to Catholic school over a cable bill or unlimited data plan.
Our Gov't on the other hand has not made the hard decisions and keeps buying it ALL. Borrowing $.60 of every $1 they spend. Greece did this same thing. Who will bail out the US?
Tax those 1000 citizens at a 100% tax rate and guess what? Still not covering what is being spent....and even then they'd find something else to spend it on....
The answer is not "new revenue"....it's to cut spending...
You can't spend yourself out of debt.

Well put..... It reminds me of a Samuel Adams quote:

"He who is void of virtuous attachments in private life is, or very soon will be, void of all regard for his country. There is seldom an instance of a man guilty of betraying his country, who had not before lost the feeling of moral obligations in his private connections."
Samuel Adams

The healthcare law is the equivalent of me going to a junkyard, and building a roadworthy vehicle out of fifty different makes and models, then, making up my own VIN and telling the state that they need to register it, so that I can drive it on the freeway, to make sure it's operable. End of story.

I really hate to keep correcting you but in every state that I know off automobile insurance is a requirement if you want to own a car. That is only one of many things that governmental authorities can and do require people to comply with.

Only if you choose to drive that car on the public road. You can own a thousand cars, not register a single one or pay a dime of insurance.
If I have the money or the good fortune to live a healthy life, what right has the govt. to extract money from me, for something that is only supposed to affect me? Remember, it's not a tax. At least, not today...It might be, tomorrow, by fiat.

Well put!

"FIAT" is the key word...... All of these supposed powers assumed by the 2007-2010 Congress are generally vaporware-politics.....

There is nowhere you can point to in our Constitution where these "powers" are enumerated.....

We have gotten to this point by the failure of parents and the education system to reuire teaching the Constitution in American Government classes. If the courses were to be taught correctly the young'uns would have to learn about (a) The Declaration of Independence, (b)"The Federalist", and (c) The Constitution.

IF you believe in a "Living" Constitution then let's play poker by "Living" rules..........

Yes, of course Royd, if you want to own a bunch of cars, disable them, and put them in a locked garage, then you do not need to insure them for driving. That was just brillant and a real contribution to the issue!!

Hey, for argument sake, I will agree with you. I like the fact that we dont pay for others. But, please, just give me an alternative idea to either a national mandate or individual mandate that everyone has to have health insurance. Your idea does not prevent people who get sick from going to the ER's and being treated and when that happens you do pay, but you pay more. Is it your idea that anyone that can not pay gets turned away. You mention destitute, how do you define it and how does one prove it. Someone, anyone, just give me one reasonable idea that would be able to take the place of the individual mandate. Giklevolk wants everyone to fend for themselves but gives no clue what to do with those who do not and continue to take advantage of the system. That is what has been happening and what is happening now. Just give me one reasonable alternative

We've already got people getting money from the govt. for Earn Income Tax Credit, and they don't pay in a dime. I suppose the govt. will just keep that, as healthcare payment. It's a zero sum game.

Not to mention, a permanent, and intentionally created welfare class. Where are they going to get the money? Oh, that's right. It will just be one more entitlement. In other words, it will be as it is...The working man just needs to hump it a little longer and harder, to carry the load.

Why didn't you deal with the rest of the statement?

it is impossible to educate people and before you are given the privelege of voting, you should be forced to take a test on american history or the constitution to see if you even understand it. you should also have to show an i.d. this healthcare bill is 3000 pages and they passed it without even reading it. why would they do that? because they as elite senators don't have to use this healthcare. this bill was about control over the population and is unconstitutional as it stands and will be repealed as soon as we get the dictator obama out of office. the ndaa bill that allows the military to arrest american citizens and hold them without trial is also unconstitutional and was already ruled so by my state, virginia who also found obamacare to be unconstitutional. the liberal justices that obama appointed to the supreme court, especially ellena kagan should not be allowed to hear this case.
