Temp and humidity were stable for 11 days at 101-102 max with 45-55% humidity . Duck eggs and 4 goose eggs. Then I candeled and threw out 8 bad eggs and 1 goose egg. It is in a spare bedroom not near vent or window. But the room did get cooler, as we had woodstove going and low temps outside. Maybe a 5-8 %drop inside. Humidity got low so I added some warm water. Yesterday and today, thermometer showed a high of 104! at top of goose eggs .(Still Air , Hovabator 1602N.). So I backed it off yesterday, then today.
What is going on? Any ideas? Was it taking the eggs out? Or adding the water? or growth of eggs? hmmm.
I was planning on adding more eggs this weekend, for a staggered hatch. It is only about 1/2 full now.

Yes, it was taking the eggs out. You changed the mass inside the incubator much in the same manner that a full refrigerator runs more efficiently than an empty one. Add a sealed jar or bottle of water as a "heat sink" and it should restablize.

thanks alot, I suspected as much, 2nd year with incubators , got only 10% hatch last year ....3 power outages...and other mistakes I learned from.

What type of incubator do you use? A Hovabator has been known to also change temps without reason. I duct taped a penny to the bottom of my Hovabator's wafer, which got it to stabalize the temps, even with taking out the bad eggs.

I have 2 1602N-2 years old....... I had some spikes last year, but figured they were from eggs developing, I read you have to watch them carefully at different stages. I was thinking of getting a 3rd, so I have one for hatching, but maybe should get another brand to compare. Not sure I want to sink big bucks yet..... I read these were a good choice for beginners, those wafer things are a pain to get on, but I tried to follow directions carefully.
I put a warm (checked with thermometer in to see if that will help for heat sink.) Also checked Holdrreads book again. and read more online. Some people use infertile eggs and replace them with fertile as they go alsong to keep temps regular..... Had a dismal hatch last year....with some spikes , and 3 power outages....lucky anything hatched. I am trying to recheck my notes and not make the same mistakes
