Today I had a duck (yes I know this is under chickens...) "sort've" hatch. It pushed out but it began to dry up and it had been in same position for over 12 hours. It had pushed out but it was still connected by its navel in the bottom of the egg. It's navel was big and it was still absorbing some blood at the base of the shell (the rest had all been absorbed)… but by this point, judging by the amount of waste in the shell base, I feared infection would set in if i didn't do something.

Yes I know to leave them alone. And I had given it a long time and was stuck between leaving it or aiding... My nurse mom finally pushed me to get it out.

So I did. And it's still alive. It lost some blood but I stopped it with pressure and it's navel is nicely already. But it's awfully weak. Earlier it kept bringing its head to the fetal position, clearly it wasn't ready to push out but it had, mostly. Now it's getting little stronger, peeping more, and it's getting a little neck strength. Every now and again it opens its little eyes to look at me… urrf… these mother feelings…

It nibbles with it's bill all the time (its in my neck now, all warm and fuzzed up. It keeps nibbling me and trying to preen…) I've even got it to swallow a few drops of sugary water. It's legs seem strong and it's responsive….. well

*sighs* I need some moral support here…

Has anyone had something similar? Any ideas? I can post pictures if anyone would like to see it. It's such a beautiful little muscovy. I would have left it alone, and I was going to, but not i definitely feel it would have died by now.

wow… suddenly it just opened its little eyes held its head up and wobbled forward… it's like a miracle. it couldn't even hold up its neck an hour ago. I'm so happy I could cry. I put it on the floor for moment to let it wobble some more and it crawled right up to my face and cuddled up…. it's still weaker than normal ducks at this stage but… wow… you know...

a bird can go from vividly alive to dead in an hour and I guess it's possible for nearly dead ducklings to revive too.

Still advice would be nice. Egg yolk and starter crumbles (it nibbled moist crumbles and shook it out of its bill lol) … getting to boiling some Aiko eggs.

NO ADVICE BUT...........well done for helping i would do the same . there is only so long you can watch and not help
