i am not for or against DE. but what i will point out as a scientist is just because a company with a vested interest commisions a study dosnt make that study invalid! scientist are independent and non biased, its common practice for companys to pay for research to back up there products, what actualy happens is if the study dosnt prove it then the company simply dosnt use the study. and as you pointed out that particular study didnt back up the use of DE but the company you assume to be biased still went ahead and PUBLISHED the report in full

You know I understand that on the internet we don't really know eachother from Adam and most people like to test things out for their own, all understandable, but this forum has tons of personal testimony about how DE has been effective to some degree. I have stated over and over how we almost lost our top show dog and even after 9 days of conventional veterinary meds it was the DE that turned him around, right now!, and saved his life. Even my vets were shocked! So...for those of you that doubt, that's fine, don't use the product, but watch out how you berate those with good results. You may find youselves in a position to need a product like DE someday. Chemicals only go so far with their over use and many worms are resiliant to them. And becoming more so...And if I hear one more time about "eating rocks", many cures come from nature...what do you think penicillin is? Are we saying that bacteria and other naturally occuring things in nature can never be cures? Rediculous. There has to be a balance between conventional and natural alternatives IMO.

I didnt say it ws all "invalid"
I pointed out that their study showed it was LESS EFFECTIVE than giving them nothing at all.​

So after 9 days of conventional treatment, you gave it some DE and it was cured immediately?

Or did it take 9 days for the conventional treatment to work and you just assume the DE did it?

Penicillin is a CHEMICAL derived from a mold. It works to kill bacteria. It will not kill insects or parasites

DE is powdered ROCK. It WILL kill insects ( if dry). It does not work on internal parasites or bacteria.

Anecdotal evidence is STILL not "proof" no matter how many people repeat it​

I will just say that DE does work for killing internal worms. I know because I have used it for quite some time now. My birds eat earthworms, flies, and whatever else kind of bug that happens to cross their path, and pick around in the dirt and they have been worm free for as long as I've used DE in their food, just over a year now. That's proof by using it, not by reading something. I don't have money to throw away so I certainly wouldn't be using it if it didn't work. And that's not anecdotal evidence, it's real evidence. I didn't do a little 2 week study on lab birds, It has worked for over a year now on my free range chickens and turkeys. I don't know if it kills or prevents any other kind of parasite, but worms? YEP sure does.

it works for my dogs and my chickens. havent seen a fly in the kennel or coop for weeks. i asked my vet and they said it was not effective for whipworms. so i use panacur for that.

Scurrying along under the counter in your relatively dry kitchen? If spread so they can't avoid walking on it, yes they'll expire more quickly than they would otherwise (nothing like good old organochlorines, but it will do). Under the feeders and waterers in the coop? Fuggidaboutit, the chooks will eat stragglers, but DE won't do squat.

We are in the woods and Wood Roaches are legion. The only form of Silicon Dioxide that will kill them is Crystalline, by squashing. Slow, sure, and demonstration of means and methods is easily illustrated for all to see. Replication by those who so desire is easily accomplished.
