This is my cucumber soap I made weeks ago. You know, the one I promised to post pictures lol. A couple of more weeks and it will be finished curing. In three weeks my castille soap will be ready as well. People are buying a little more regularly now. It isn't a lot of money but it is coming more steady

I posted my soaps on Craigs list last night and this morning I had an email. The lady wanted pictures and prices.

Now hopefully I will hear back from her hehe. I'm trying to not get to excited but I can't help it. And I have a guy fom church wanting to buy some soap from me also. This really boosts my confidence in myself. I needed that. WOOHOO!!!

I have a two layer recipe I want to use but I am wondering one thing. The recipe calls for water but can I use the same amount of milk as water instead? Oh, and what do you think it would be like if I did one layer with milk and the other with the water?

Sure you can use milk instead of water, or yogurt or or butter milk or cocnut milk. you just have to be careful to not curdle the milk with heat from the lye.

And your idea of layering the soap like that sounds really cool!

do you measure the bag first? or it is so small of weight it really doesnt matter?

I don't weigh the bag. I'll pour about half gallon of milk into gallon bag and freeze it on it's side. When I'm ready to soap (each batch takes at least a bag + of milk), I chunk up the milk and weigh it them

Oh yes are you joining the swap?

you mean this swap ???

Yup!

Ya know, I could have SWORN that I made a post in here just a couple days back and I don't see it.

I had mentioned that y'all have some BEAUTIFUL soaps goin right now!

I'm working on a 'breakfast soap' now ... oatmeal and coffee.

Just made a batch last week but something went wrong. It took FOREVER to trace, took 48 hours before I could unmold and 36 hours after that it's still very soft to the touch. None of my others were like that.

Strange ... of course it could well be my super high tech analog scale had something to do with it.

Hey there Cyndi...

That was the last one from me that I saw also ... but not the last one I posted. Perhaps I hit the wrong button and didn't actually post it .. who knows. I'll just blame it on Mad Cow and move on. Hehehehe

Yep, with a stick blender ... it was really strange. Usually with the recipe I posted, it traces rather quickly ... a few minutes most. This one took me probably 45 minutes to trace. Buzz for a minute then stir with the blender off ... then buzz ... then stir, etc etc.

I doubt I measured one twice, but anything is possible. The meds that they have me on now have me ... groggy? Not 'out of it' but kind of forgetful at times? I'm also wondering, though doubtful, if the oils from the coffee beans might have had an efffect on the curing. Of course, I didn't put them in until trace, so it couldnt have an effect on that part.

I'll blame that one on a Mad Cow/Analog Scale combo and move on. I'm gonna hold onto it for a while though and see what it does ... I'd hate to waste all that. (all 2 lbs, LOL)

Peace!

Don
