Soap Makers Help!

I think we had a discussion about distilling, oh, a hundred or so pages back.

It is doable, obviously, but you have to have a LOT of product to get the scent, and the equipment of course.

Yeah, it takes so many pounds of petals to make one ounce of eo. Not to say you couldn't do it, but if it was that easy it wouldn't cost so much.

$975 is way to much, learn the principles and then use the resourses at hand to get the job done. i found a site that used a trivet, a copper pan, a heat resistant glass container and an inverted pan lid that you iced. looks like it is much the same as making shine...the oils (or shine

) vaporize at a lower temp. than water...so no never heat water to steam...you condense and collect it...

over there i have an easy access to jasmine...instead of homeless at intersection they have hawkers sell jasmine wreaths to put in car...kind of like thai airfresheners. i see ladies all the time with needle and thread making them

i couldn't resist and i unmolded one of yesterdays bars. i got all 6 sides looking good...before i had 5 out of 6...leaving the top open. i read on here about a lid on molds...so i tried it with plastic. was't sure if it should be air tight or not (nice not knowing the rules so i don't have to follow them) i overfilled the mold so that i had to squeeze excess out. i cheated also by throwing it into the freezer to firm it up so i wouldn't mess up the bar...i had tried earlier using heat to do that but that got to be a sticky mess...so should hardening soap really be able to breath and is it ok to freeze it?

i'm sort of a mad scientist when i'm allowed into the kitchen...plus i run with scissors

Hey Morgaine....how about using poppy seeds in a melt and pour glycerin in the cold process rind colored with liquid chlorophyll?? When using the melt and pour and cold process you need to pour the mp onto the cp soap as soon as it sets up so it'll stick. BUT I bet the glycerin colored red with poppy seeds on top of the cp would look GREAT! I just swirled with mp into cp soap and it cut so nice and looked wicked cool.

EASIER too...not long curing that one!!

The weather forecast for next saturday has changed

Now they say it will be in the mid 70s and sunny with a 20% chance of rain. That is much better forecast.
I'm going to have to try that swirling the MP into the CP! It sounds cool as heck. Do you let the CP start to set up first?

I waited until thick pudding consistency before drizzling the mp high into the cp...then used my chop sticks to swirl....it turned out very nice. I did let my mp cool slightly before drizzling. MP hardens first...fyi...so do not cut until the cp has fully set up 48 hours or so. The loaf gelled and all.

Try layering it too!! You have to let the bottom layers set up before putting on the top layers...I put mp glycerin in bottom of mold...let it harden and THEN added cp on top of that and then again MP on top of that after cp set up. IT cut so nice...layers were beautiful.

Glycerin sweats while curing when combining with cp...and expect the cp layer to give off humidity onto the glycerin....no worries just shave it off.
