Soap Makers Help!

I'm glad to hear that it went well, Morgaine! Congrats! I'm not really surprised to hear that the Almond & Oatmeal was one of your better sellers. I think people's preferences change with the seasons and that seems to me to be a wonderful Autumn/Winter fragrance.

I don't think I reported on our festival. This happened when I was down with Swine Flu, so I didn't have as much of a hand in the booth. I haven't yet gotten down there to do an inventory on the supplies but I've been told that our sales weren't all that great. We had a terrible spot at the very back facing the kiddie rides where most of the shoppers were avoiding. Additionally, turnout was lower due to another festival nearby. Also, no one put out any sniffies.

I'm not really that concerned about it, though. I think I'll just make another couple batches before the holidays and spend the rest of my time working the garden. We just prepped the rows for winter veggie plants and are planning some programs to teach kids about where food comes from. It was so fun out there yesterday as several young girls were delightedly picking grapes and apples off the vines/trees and having a snack.

Shelly, sorry to hear that your festival didn't go well. But I think they broke one of the cardinal rules, you GOTTA have sniffies! That's what makes people stop and look. Almond and Oatmeal has always done well, but it did really well this time. I'm waiting to hear if I got into the Hogeye festival. I sent them another e-mail. I haven't got my check back yet either and as of Friday it hadn't been cashed. I hate not knowing!

Ok here is a picture of my booth at first Friday. I gotta get the ones from Saturday off my mil camera.

And here is the Lavender and Ylang soap I did. Did not turn out at all like I had planned, but I rather like it. I was planning to have a pink bottom, do a pencil line with the alkanet root powder and then have a top of light yellow and pink swirls. But I was planning on the soap setting up fast because of the floral and wouldn't you know I had al the time in the world. When I went to put the top layer on it just sank in so I played with it a bit.

Oooooooh! I like the way that the Lavender and Ylang soap turned out! I know it's not what you intended, but it's pretty nonetheless!

Yep, I'm sure that's part of the problem with the sales. The ones that sold were the heavier fragrances that weren't concealed by the packaging. Oh well, like I said, it's not a loss because now I get to cruise a bit through the fall season. I'm soooooooo busy right now that I don't mind in the least.

Morgaine....I love the ylang ylang...very pretty!!!!! It is so funny...how soapers are picky....but I've had some of my WORST soaps sell the best. It is so weird how I do not like the soap at all...but it sells so well!!!! LOL It makes me feel better about a mistake that people LOVE....it is kind of like playing an instrument and flubbing a note...if you just keep playing till the end of the song NO none notices!!

Thanks Brandy. I think this turned out better than the way I had planned, lol. Funny how the ones you think will do well don't move and others just fly. No accounting for tastes I guess. I'll get some batteries and get pictures of the chamomile one. That blue mica was the perfect color for it. Thanks for sending that.

Am I the only one who has ever wondered about the original poster? Wonder what Jenlyn is up to and how her soaping is going.

I think she was getting married this month. She was interested in the swap but didn't sign up. I wonder about a few that were here in the begining too, if they are still soaping.

I have wondered that many times and have also wondered about the folks who were initially active and haven't posted in a while. I assume they're no longer subscribed to this thread but if they are, I'd love an update.
