It should be ok for personal use, as long as it's just a little bit. I don't know for sure if soap with DOS can harbor any nasties or not. Now I can tell you that they will start to get a funky smell. I had a bar that was in my junk drawer for about a year and it was covered with DOS and had a really nasty rancid smell to it.

To throw it out or not is up to you, but do not sell those bars or even give them away. I just don;t know that it won't grow mold or other nasties on the orange part.

I'm starting to get more orders from past customer for Christmas presents! One lady called Saturday about 20 soaps and I deliver 30 soaps tomorrow! At retail prices too! Woohoo! I am going to throw in a free bar or two though since they are such large order.

Been kinda quiet on here recently... anyone soaping??

I'm trying to carve out some time this weekend to get in a couple of Christmas batches and do some lotion bars and foot lotion.... got a few requests for them...

I need to restock Almond and Oatmeal. That one has really been flying. I just delivered 30 bars of it yesterday. Other than that and maybe one or two experimetns I just thought of, I'm stocked up. We are slowly moving into the other house (Finally!!!) so I have been really busy packing and organizing.

I should get the last of my stuff to make the emulsified foot scrub in today. I'll do that Friday or sunday I think. Here is a recipe if you are interested.

Ametauss,
Please explain lotion bars. I make solid bars of basically balm that we use as hand lotion. I don't think this is what you are talking about.

I have been making soap for Christmas. I made a vanilla bar the other day that looked exactly like smoked Gouda chesse. If it didn't smell like vanilla it would make a wonderful practical joke. I have been so busy with the remodel of our house that I almost forgot about making soap for Christmas.

I'm soaping today, the first time in months. What a crazy fall I've had!

Today I'm soaping Winter Solstice by TSW.

BirdBrain - I know the look you're talking about! I made a vanilla that looked like that when it was first cut, with a darker rind and lighter in the middle. As it aged, the middle caught up with the "rind" look and darkened overall. I'll be curious to know if yours does the same.

Morgaine - So exciting about the new house! Are you still putting in your soaping shed? I haven't forgotten about your box of sniffies. It just got crazy here so I didn't finish putting it together for you.

I'm curious about these lotion bars and lotions you guys are making. Anyone want to point me to a tried and true recipe?
