) but I poor into those.. and they work perfect! Nice round soap.. to get them out I put a hole in the metal plate on the bottom.. and it lets the air in to slide out.. then I slice..

and very cheap.

I also made one too..

Pringles cans work well too!

Besides just slicing them round, I like to slice them every 3-4", then slicing them in half so you have a half moon shape....

Used to have a jr high teacher that was a Pringle fanatic. I'd get 4-5 cans from him each week!

Works great for my soapmaking classes. Fits 1.5# of oils in each can and my students can take their soap home with them.

My mom gave me some olive oil she didn't like the taste of and I am wondering if I can use it for soap. The problem is it is not 100% olive oil, so what can I do to use it in soap safely?

Most vegetable oils have a NaOH SAP value of .134-.135 so you could plug in the amount of this adulterated OO into a lye calculator under OO.

The problem is you don't know the % of the 'other' oils in the OO. I'd take a guess they are high oleic sunflower, safflower or soybean oil. All those oils make a softer soap

I would make a soap, using this OO at aboug 30% of the recipe, the other 70% made up of oils that make a hard soap, i.e. lard, tallow, palm, coconut, palm kernel.

I have a quart of what was supposed to be yogurt but is now slightly thicker milk with honey and vanilla. Can I use this to make an oatmeal, milk and honey soap even though it has about a tablespoon of vanilla?

Yes, it will be wonderful!!!! I'd use it about half the liquid amount ... freeze this mixture in ice cube trays.

Mix lye in water (half the liquid called for). Then add your yogurt for the other half of liquid.

Hi gals (and Don). I need to do some brain picking.

Hubby has decided to discard his old method of shaving and go back to the old method of shaving - using a double edged safety razor. He also placed an order for some shave soap so that we can try it out.

But, I'm going to attempt to make some of our own. I have some bentonite clay but am wondering what else is suggested. My TSC book doesn't have a recipe, although there are a couple on the Internet.

Any thoughts on these?

Also, in searching the Net, one of the commercially made soaps that gets huge reviews, particularly by the ladies, contains avocado oil. Has anyone tried that in their shaving recipe?
