Wooo hoooo! That grapefruit is soooooooo yummy! After soaping it last week, I took a little of an end piece to church. Everyone LOVED it. I can tell it's going to be a big seller amongst my crowd.

I can pretty much guarantee that there will be fees with any CC transactions. That's how banks make their money.

Check around tho. You might find another bank that is more business friendly than another.

My Goodness! A lot has been going on these past few days.
I've been soaping the past few days. Made a new castile recipe that uses green tea as part of the liquid. This was really nice to cut. Will post pics later.

Chicknwhisperer: Have you rendered your lard yet? I render both lard and tallow by the same method. I like to use leaf fat from around the kidneys. It is the hardest and the cleanest. I cut it into 1 inch cubes and put in a stainless steel pan on the stovetop on medium heat. As the fat melts I use a one cup ladle and pour the fat thru a sieve into a plastic bucket. This way the fat is never too hot and the liquified oil can begin to cool in the bucket. I then let it cool overnight and then cover with a lid and put in the freezer until ready to use. Recycled ice cream buckets make a convenient size....7 - 8 pounds.
I have not tried the method using a roasting pan in the oven.

Backyard buddies: So glad to see you were successful in your rebatch in the oven. That was a big batch! I use my microwave for small batches. In an 8 cup glass measuring bowl, I can melt 4 bath size bars ( 3.5 x 4 x 1") I chop the pieces into 1/4 to 1/2 inch cubes, add 1/3 cup water and melt on high for 5 minutes, stir down. I then add my additives and heat on med for two minutes. Now I stir, stir, stir and then pour into mold. I don't have to press down.

Morgaine: Love that green soap from your infusion. Your berry bars for the B&B are great looking too.

A crockpot can be used to render fat as well. Put it in, turn it on and let it go over night. Next day remove the lid, wipe off any moiture, remove the tissue residue, let it go on a little more if there is any condensation, strain and let cool.

I do this with chicken fat when we process the extra roosters. I have a quart of chicken schmaltz in the freezer waiting for my next project.

Do I need to add water to it or no? I have 10# so I figured I would just use my big SS pot. I read that I should use 1/2 cup water per pound or so of fat. I don't need it right away so I could do it overnight.
