Soap Makers Help!

Yeah, I pureed 3 large cucumbers and added them at light trace but I may have added to much or someting. Maybe thats what whent wrong but I'm not sure since it wasn't soft but brittle instead.

But on the good side of things, I licked that soap and there was no more zing and the feel of it was a lot better.

I just made a beautious soap. Morgaine, I used aloe vera juice as 50% of my liquids. Since it was going to be a bit yellow any way I infused the olive oil with paprika and then strained it through a coffee filter. I had to add a bit more to bring the volume back up to what the recipe called for. I also used both Orange EO (five fold) and Lemon EO to scent it. The aloe vera and water looked disgusting when I mixed the lye with it, but it sure looks nice in the mold now.

I really did not need to be making soap. I am supposed to be cleaning the house........

Step--9 Ignore the house work and get busy making soap.

Step--10 Act like that is what you had planned all along.

Thanks Morgaine! This is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I didn't want to have to go through it all again.

Chickn.. Lovely soaps. That calendula one looks like a dessert!

I bet it smells great! Mine has always turned neon yellow when I mix in the lye. Can't wait to see a picture.

We need something along the lines of "You might be a redneck..." kinda thing for soapers.

You might be a soaper if you have more soap in your house than food, lol.

Then I'm a soaper no doubt. Umm by the way what is calendula? I put carnations on it.

It's a success! I got the swirling down on this batch.

And all 9 bars are sold! I did this one up specially for a local beach resort. She loves them (though the colour didnt' work out...it was suppose to be blue not lilac/purple) and she's paying me the full $5. a bar (I was offering it at $2.50 a bar) as long as I make this soap just for the resort! She needs 13 "bars" a week minimum depending on whether it's a weekly rental or a weekend so it could go up to 20 "bars" a week in the summer. And she wants to have some on hand to sell to her guests to take home and not just of this one but of some of the others (she loved the cucumber and the watermelon ones). These I feel are too big for the cottages, good for selling but if the soap is smaller and the guests like them, they will have to buy more was my thinking, they won't have a hugh amount of soap left to take home. Housekeeping agreed with me, so I'll be cutting these into four pieces and make up special labels for them.

WOW!! You all are getting GOOD!! Beautiful soaps, everyone!

breconbcs - Congrats on the new contract!! I agree - smaller is better, especially if you want to then sell them more.

Sorry I've been absent lately. Life has been crazy busy! I finally had a moment to myself today. Do ya think I spent my day cleaning? working? reading emails? catching up on my reading?
Naw . . . I made soap! This one is Herbal Mint - OO infused with comfrey and rosemary, with a bunch of great oils, cocoa butter, and parsley powder and mint flecks & peppermint EO for scent.

Oops sorry.. I thought I read calendula somewhere... confused as usual. Calendula is also called pot marigold (not the same as the marigold you normally find in 6 packs for your flower bed) and is great for soap and herbal stuff. I used to buy it in bulk from sanfrancisco herb co...
