Soap Makers Help!

I'm glad to hear that's not poison ivy, hope you find out what it is though. It's not chicken pox is it?

I love the look of you layered soap! Very cool indeed!

Very pretty soaps! I'll be interested to see how the green holds up as well! And cool picture of the seperated soap!

I'll get pictures later, I have to leave soon, but I wanted to update about the spirulina powder. When it started it was a very nice dark green, almost like breconbcs' parsley colored soap. Now it has faded A LOT and is turning brownish. I really wanted a deep green,

I ran out lye (I have more on the way this week) and have been having withdrawl, doesn't help with the FM coming up.

But I found a way to lessen it.....Lotion Bars! I made two small batches this morning. And tonight I will give them out to see how they go over.

They were simple to make - equal parts of beeswax, butter, and oil. And EO/FO. The white ones are: sunflower oil, cocoa butter and Jasmine scent, the other is avocado oil, mowrah butter and Bahama Berry and Melon scent.

eta: I think I got the best review I could have asked for especially so early into my soap making. I had given sample soaps to the lady at the beach club, she in turn gave away alot of the samples to friends and guests. They went over big with everyone but one lady said it was better than the expensively fancy bar of soap she brought back from France! She bought a couple of more bars to give to friends and has put in an order for when she comes back in July. Hopefully she'll be come a regular buyer.

Yes, I wanted to show how a rebatch can work.
I added 1/3 cup water to the finely chopped soap and captured oil in a SS pan on a low stovetop burner and stirred frequently until all was melted. The mold was a 3.5 x 3 x 11 inch log mold. Because of the low water added, I was able to cut the log the very same evening. It is curing nicely along with the other batches.

And the green is holding on the parsley flake soap too. I used McCormick parsley flakes from the store. I think the green tea is probably helping keep the color. Will post a pictue soon.

I got my 10x10 tent today

I was practicing putting it up by myself. It's not so bad and could always be worse. My DH and I were discussing haveing our oldest son work the FM with me and I would pay him for it. He really has a lot to learn and we think this might help him to see what the world is like outside of his books. I love reading don't get me wrong, but he acts as though people act the same in real life as they do in his books. Then he wonders why so many kids are mean to others and to him at times. But anyway, here are some pics of my tent

chiknwhisperer - I'm sorry to hear about your son. Have you figured out what it was? Did he eat anything he doesn't usually eat or take a medication that he might be allergic to?

The new soap looks GREAT - and the chicks, too!

breconbcs - What wonderful compliments you've gotten! I think that's fabulous! I would say that I have to agree - I've been given fancy French milled soap and don't find it nearly as lovely as the cp soap. Your new experiments look fun, too. Let us know how they do!

Morgaine - As you may recall, it was a HUGE batch of soap - nearly 10 lbs of oils. To that, I added about 2 cups of liquid (water and milk) per the instructions I had, which works out to 1.6 oz/lb of oils. I suspect that closer to an ounce per lb. would have been better. It's going to work eventually. The best thing I did was to not cut it before it was hard enough so that it didn't warp as it was drying.

Acre of Blessings - You can do it! We all started out without knowing much and many of us started out right here on this thread.
