Soap Makers Help!

2020_2008-12-06soapgifts.jpg

The green soap in the fore ground is made with Green Chromium. I only used about a half of a teaspoon in a recipe that had about 50 ounces of oils. I have made another soap with the green and used a teaspoon or more and it came out a nice dark green. I would add the color to your oils for ease of use. It will look really dark at first and lighten up when you add the lye. You can always add more at first trace if it is not dark enough for you.

Those baskets look so nice, I bet everyone loved them! I like the green, but I'm thinking a little darker.

Thanks breconbcs I'll look into those too.

Did he have a fever several days before the rash appeared? I know when each of my kids came down with roseola, the fever was gone before the spots arrived and they had no concern in the least about the spots. They didn't itch or bother them at all.

Morgaine & BirdBrain your soaps are just gorgeous, you all have soooo much talent.

I made my first batch of soap and I am hooked, it really was fun! Thanks again for all the help.

Most of what I buy, I get through the mail, but there are a few things you can purchase locally.
Olive Oil - Costco. It comes in a huge jug and was running less than $22 the last time I bought it. The cost per ounce is about 13 cents, which is better than you'd do via mail order.
Grapeseed Oil - Trader Joe's. While you can buy it at a lower price online, there's no shipping involved.
Lye - You can get that at Ace Hardware, tho you may need to order it online and have it shipped to the store for free. Since I'm doing a bit bigger volume, I just ordered lye online because I could cut the cost. But, if you want a smaller amount, the guys there at the Ace on Harbor Blvd are really nice and helpful. Talk to the manager. He told me he'd keep it in stock if I wanted him to. The brand they carry is called Rooto.

Other than oils that I can purchase inexpensively locally, I buy the rest of my oils through Columbus Foods and have them shipped. I've been meaning to go to the large Japanese market over on Paularino to see if they carry some oils - specifically palm and rice bran. Have you checked to see what they carry? What are you finding locally?

Hey Dude.... I just whipped up a batch of Black Salve using Bamboo Charcoal.... Came out great!!

I saw on the charcoal site some very pretty soaps made with activated charcoal.... never really thought of using it in a soap but they did a very nice swirl in a white base which looked awesome....

Welcome to BYC....

Next is chickens.... we convert everyone...

Hee hee hee. And since he lives close to me, I can point him right where he can find sweet little fluffy baby chicks. In fact, the feed store I'm thinking of restocks every Wednesday and since it just happens to be Wednesday . . . .
