Most of what I buy, I get through the mail, but there are a few things you can purchase locally.
Olive Oil - Costco. It comes in a huge jug and was running less than $22 the last time I bought it. The cost per ounce is about 13 cents, which is better than you'd do via mail order.
Grapeseed Oil - Trader Joe's. While you can buy it at a lower price online, there's no shipping involved.
Lye - You can get that at Ace Hardware, tho you may need to order it online and have it shipped to the store for free. Since I'm doing a bit bigger volume, I just ordered lye online because I could cut the cost. But, if you want a smaller amount, the guys there at the Ace on Harbor Blvd are really nice and helpful. Talk to the manager. He told me he'd keep it in stock if I wanted him to. The brand they carry is called Rooto.
Other than oils that I can purchase inexpensively locally, I buy the rest of my oils through Columbus Foods and have them shipped. I've been meaning to go to the large Japanese market over on Paularino to see if they carry some oils - specifically palm and rice bran. Have you checked to see what they carry? What are you finding locally?
