Soap Makers Help!

Welcome to the list Dude!

My lye finally arrived today so I'm soaping again.

I tried that Strawberry Red colouring. When I added it just before trace it turned peachy/orange and seized. So it'll be interesting to see what it turns out like when I unmold it as I still attempted a swirl into the flop. And it went from Strawberry Vanilla Swirl to Orange Dreamsicle scent.

I will be trying it on another batch, adding it to the oils and see how that works.

Otherwise it felt so good to be back making soap!

It sounds like I need to get my Costco mebership again. Even if it is just for the olive oil lol. But with a family of 6 some of the stuff becomes to expensive there but there are plenty of things that are worth it. Maybe I'll get a mebership after I make some money at the FM.

well...i tried a batch today...all i can say is i learned a lot. things went south from the get go. but for me that is a good thing, i need to make the mistakes so i can learn for myself. anyway i blundered thru it and i'm waiting to see the results...i won't go into details yet...you might pee yourself laughing...let me lick my wounds and see how really bad it was.

this is why i buy at the 99 cent store for now...a mistake only costs me about $5...pretty cheap to learn something...a lot cheaper than the stock market.

grasshoppers are just too big, the little light colored crickets that about 1/2" are really good. there is so many here if i get chickens i might not even need buy feed...they might even eat the black widows...they are eating the crickets and are almost as thick.

i'll be watching for your herb now, the bamboo charcoal has a green matalic look to it...if you only use a little...my first batch turned out almost a jade green...you'd really have to grind and screen it to get it to powder.

i just googled honeysuckle, read up about the flowers...as i have a ton of them in bloom right now. from what i read it sent me outside to cut a few blooms and make sure the pic matched to what is outside. i cut a few blooms off and got a milky sap coming from the cut...it smelled good so i gota bowl and cut a few more and covered it in sunflower oil...what i had on hand...will this infuse a scent into the oil?

The forecast for the 6th out here is thunderstorms! Keep your fingers crossed that the forecast changes cuz that is the day of the FM

They don't operate in thunderstorms, just a regular rain. I have almost all of my labels printed out except for about 50 of them. But that won't take long at all. I used my Anise EO. I really hope that it tones down little. It REALLY smells like black licorice and I don't like the smell of it at all.

Its just black licorice that I hate, not the red. Never could stand the smell.

so then it really isn't worth the time to do it?

i just had my friend check and he does think my hair is filling in. interesting, never thought about it doing that but it does improve the blood flow.

Wanna tackle soap making........have fresh goats milk now.

But what is the difference between Essential Oil & Fragrance Oil? I mean are they interchangeable in a soap recipe? If not what's the difference & how do you know which one to use?

My understanding of the difference is that EOs are natural distilations of plant oils while FOs are chemical preparations that may contain some EOs. You would use a lot more FO than EO per pound of oils and they have a greater tendency to make the soap sieze. FOs give me a head ache. There are a much greater variety of FOs than EOs.
