Soap Makers Help!

Trying to get ready for the FM, not sure if I'm going tomorrow or next weekend (I don't feel ready and DH says it's just nerves). But I got a surprise when I cut my "Baby Fresh" soap today to make some samples with, sorry the picture is blurred, it's just not my day for picture taking..lol.

The soap is nice. I tried it today and it is so moisturizing, I may try this recipe with my french vanilla fo.

Your soap looks great. It reminds me of my chocolate soap when I cut it. It did the same thing. It is nerves. I didn't get to sleep until 2am and then had to get up and be gone by 6:15 the day of my first FM. I was soooo nervous and couldn't even take my anxiety medicine because I would have never woke up in time to be there. And then to make matters worse my DH's relief at work called off so he had to stay for another 8 hours. He was supposed to help keep me calm at the FM. When he found it he would have to stay late he called at 1:30am! That of course didn't help. I am slightly nervous still but no where near as bad. My DS will be helping me tomorrow if it doesn't thunderstorm.

How long does it take for this soap to be hard enough to cut? Your porportions are way off for any recipe I've seen. For 2 pounds of lard you should use 12 oz milk and 4 oz lye. I would try that and just leave out the oatmeal and honey.

This was a recipe I got from someone else on the web. It actually traced better and sooner than any other soap. Thanks for converting it for me Morgaine. I'm going to try to try this today. Oh and it was hard and I cut it the very next morning.

Well I went to the FM today. It was COLD and rainy. We all left at 12:30 because of the rain. The amount of people was cut down by half because of the sucky weather. I only made $54 today because of the lack of people.
But that means I made the money back from my vendor's fee. I have enough money to open my business account now.

I really hope next week is better. I'm out of packaging supplies and I need oils BAD. And I have people asking for certain scents and stuff. And then I did have a vegan stop by today and I was able to sell her mom some soap. When was completely vegan and the other had lard in it. I had no idea that vegan's don't eat honey. She almost didn't get one of the soaps because it said it had oatmeal milk and honey, she didn't see the fragrance part. After she saw that she was okay with it. And I have people who will be coming back next week and a lady that wants me to tech her daughter how to make soap

I also told her to come to this site

Oh, and I thought I had a full tale cloth but it turned out not to be. Needless to say there will be a different one by next Saturday.

Sorry to hear the weather didn't co-operate chicknwhisper. Hopefully next weekend will be better.

I wound up not doing the FM yesterday. We went over and did a walk through with the manager yesterday, DH agrees with me, I have a few small things to do this week and then we will be ready for Saturday.

I was going through my notes and recipe book this morning and got to wondering, how many recipes does everyone typically have? I love experimenting but am wondering if I need to have every soap be a different recipe - so far I have 4 or 5 recipes I really like the results from - or is scent/colour enough with a base recipe?

eta: to early for spelling..

I about 5 recipes that I really like and I work with those the most. Then I have a handful of other recipes that I use to be not as much.

Morgaine, I charged .50 for my sample size bars and people actually bought them! I wasn't sure if they would or not. And my MIL would ruin me if she were in charge

She wanted to give me her garage sale stickers so I can stick them to the packaging of the soap and then I wouldn't need the sign and people could see the price right there. I don't like that idea one bit

She gave me the LOOK lol I'm so happy I'm the one in charge of the whole thing .
