Soap Makers Help!

That is too expensive! Don't buy your ingredients from Amazon (the F-N soap there is $4.95/bar!)

It was cheaper for me. The only thing I couldn't find locally was Fels-Naptha soap, so I ordered 7 bars from SoapsGoneBuy for a total of $11.75, less than $2/bar. I found the Sodium Carbonate in the pool care section at walmart- 2 lbs was $7.34, 5 lbs was $8.64, so I bought 5 lbs and should have enough for forever. Borax is sold at Walmart & Target here for about $3/box.

So that is a total of $23 out of pocket, to probably make enough detergent for a year or more. I haven't made it yet b/c the fels-naptha hasn't arrived, but I did find a site with variations on the recipe so you can adjust it to suit your needs.

These links helped me as well:
Recipes: http://tipnut.com/10-homemade-laundry-soap-detergent-recipes/
FAQ

I'm
planning on ordering essential oils once I try it and test it, the two I want will probably be about $20, but I'm going to wait to make sure I can get the formula right first

Awesome!! Thank you for the info. I will see what I can find at Walmart. Is the Sodium Carbornate the washing soda?

I dont know if it will help you, but when I went to my local Ace Hardware store, the manager told me that anyone selling Dial soap can order you some Fels Naptha. I found my Washing Powder at Brookshire Brothers. Ive also heard that you can sometimes find Fels Naptha at the Dollar Store or Family General stores. I havent tried those yet. I get it at my hardware store.

I got my order from southern garden scents last night. The apple jack peel is pretty nice! More apple-y than I thought it would be, but hubby loves it. The other two new ones I got was Burberry for Men and Badedas. Both are actually really nice. they are not as perfumy as Irish Tweed. lighter, more citrus notes. Badedas is mainly citrus, al ot of lime, and then a few other notes that I can't place but it's nice. Burberry has citrus, though it's a bit more orange citrus with some woody notes. I think they both will sell well.

I think I'll soap AJP peel later today for the swap

Peakpoultry: Correct- Sodium Carbonate = Washing soda. It is listed as pH-Plus / pH increaser and you can read the ingedient on the label.
The kind in the pool section is 98% Sodium Carbonate & 2% inert ingredients-I called the company and they said it was basically pure with just a little bit of filler or something and shouldn't affect the use in detergent.

kool info on the Sod Car.... I'll also have to check walmart out. I bet I already have some in the pool supply bucket since last year we had a PH issue....

Here's a weird question, if Fels Nappa is soap, why can't you just "soap" some up??

Are the ingredients not out there for purchase??

I was asked at the FM to make a heavy lye soap like Octagon, to do this I was wondering if you just add extra lye and if so how much.... She wants to use it for posion ivy... any suggestions??

Personally, I wouldn't make a lye heavy soap for a customer. You never know how they will use it, if they foget that was the lye heavy one and wash their face and then sue when it burns. Not woth it.

I don't think I ever said thank you for posting your pictures on your displays! I've been thinking of making several and sell them for our church....there is a festival (Octoberfest) here in Dumas and these might sell well....

Do you make your own little bags for the soaps or purchase them somewhere... < cheap
