Do you trim the tops? I've never done that unless the soaps were too bog to fit in the bags or just fugly tops. What does the trimming do special?

Just straightens the tops...or shaves off any soda ash that may have formed...although I've noticed I'm not getting that as much lately. I incorporated vitamin E and UPPED the beeswax...not as much ash...but still get it from time to time.

I rearely get ash unless I use lavender eo or do the 100%co/20%sf soap, That got a good amount on it. I don't have any ash on these. No beeswax either.

I only get it on the surface of my gelled soaps without milk or juice...believe it or not. My juice milk ones never have it...

What oils are you using?
When you say 100%/20%....what do you mean? Sorry...the neurons are not firing as well in this coldness!!
edited to add...
Sorry...it hit me...Superfat...OK. I get it.

I don't know, I've just not ever had a problem with it. How much coconut do you use? When I was using more co I got a little more. And I always get a tiny bit when I use lavender eo, even in blends.

I use olive, coconut, palm, rice bran, shea butter, almond and castor.

That is 100% coconut oil soap with a 20% superfat. I've also done 80% coconut, 20% shea butter, 20% superfat. It's a nice bubbly soap that isn't very drying even though you think it would be. The high superfat is what does that. It makes a good shampoo bar, for hubby's hair anyway. Mine not so much. I made him a mechanics out of that because the coconut is so cleaning.

IT depends on the recipe I'm using...but coconut and palm stay the same in ALL my recipes. 25% coconut and about 10% palm...

Hmmm...got me thinking I need to revisit my recipe again...I hate that!! I'll try out those oils...I've tried almond and castor...but never RICEBRAN...you got me back to the store girl!! (-:

You should put pumice in that mechanics soap...my brother is also mechanic and he uses my pumice GRITS soap...LOVES it...wicked hard bar. NO scent....because he is all MAN he says!
