The brown one, well better luck next time.

Today a little old lady aproached me and started showing me how dry and flaky her forehead is. I showed her what we offer where I work...she's tried lotions and creams and nothing works. What would you do? I ran out to my car and grabbed some goats milk soap and gave it to her. She was so delighted. She wanted to pay for it, but I asked that she just let me know if it helps. That made my day!

Buff - did you color the top portion of that snickerdoodle or did it just darken? Forgive me if these are redundant or stupid questions, but do you do goat's milk or water? Do you insulate your soaps?

The pencil line looks great, though!

Thanks! No the color was just natural due to oils and FO, it was water-based (I had not picked up GM from mom at that time) and yes it was insulated. Morgaine suggested on the other thread it was due to the vanilla content of the FO which I didn't even think of!

That's true - I actually like using almond scent because the vanilla content turns the soap a nice almondy color. I'm wondering if insulating increases the color change, though. I don't insulate at all and have never had that type of discoloration....do you know what % the vanilla content is? How much FO did you use and how big was your batch?

The snickerdoodle scent is pretty heavy on vanilla. If you don't gell, it takes longer for the soap to discolor but it eventually will. The discoloration also depends % of vanilla, some like almond have just a slight discoloration. OMH usually goes dark tan. My dragon's blood goes very dark but it starts out a weird khaki color but turns dark within a week. If the corners don't gell, it takes them a couple of more days to even out. A lot of fragrance places will tell you if the fo discolors.

I get my FOs from WSP and they tell you the % of Vanilla. I actually never had an OMH bar that discolored....I only use goat's milk so my bars aren't white to begin with, but they never got any darker than a dark ivory.

Then again, I was only using about an oz of FO per 4# of soap. I've actually decided to cut the FO from that particular recipe out completely because I've found that the scent is really weak. I made a batch with no FO and people have told me it smells the same as batches with the FO.
