Found the palm oil at the only international market in town. 4.69 for a quart sized can of "vegetable ghee". I'm ready to soap!

That is such a fun place to shop! I got rosewater, seasame oil and saw a few other things I will probably be going back for.

BockBock, if you read the forum and take notes, you can jump right in with the GM. I read all of the pages and took tons of notes too. I started with GM and it's been just fine. The only time it went wrong was when the milk was just cold, not frozen, and technically it didn't "go-wrong" it was just hot and neon colored. MLF/Cyndi said it's okay to use it even when it turns neon colored. Make sure you wear your eye protection because stirring the lye with the frozen goat's milk chunks can get "sloppy". Sometimes the chunks don't stir real well. Good luck to you, I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Overheated due to Fo a bit. Lost alot of the FO all over my countertop. But soap was good to go for cutting the next day. Just the first 2 inches reacted to the over heat it looks like. It is on curing rack with a paper towel underneath. Was still leaking a bit of FO when I cut it too. I did put in a whole ounce and did not put that in my measurments for formula. So my bad. Other than that it came out good, a med yellow. It is softer than my other batchess but will cure hard in 4 weeks. I will not use the FO again it was not the one I thought it was as I grabed wrong bottle. The was SS Sargo de Drago and it was way too much floral.

I use coconut milk all the time...love it. I sub it for an equal amount of water. Mix the lye with ice, cool it down and then add the coconut milk and lye water to the oils. Soap to trace as usual, add the FO and pour up. I usually just cover the log mold with a sheet of freezer paper and a towel until the next morning.
Do the same thing when I use Aloe Vera juice.

Does anyone here make salt bars?

I've seen Bramble Berry's recipe and others that only call for 1/2 tsp. per pound of oils. I made a batch this morning using the 1/2 tsp. method and French Grey Sea Salt. I scented the soap with Sage and Lemongrass Cybilla FO, Champagne FO, and Peppermint EO. For color I split the batch into thirds and went with Green Chromium Oxide for one, Opalescent Green Mica for another, left the third one plain and swirled. It looks and smells good. I'll post pics once I take it out of the mold. I used the same scent mixture to make lotion bars. I'm calling it Seafoam.

Does anyone have a tried and true method for adding in salt?

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

I thought about that but would like to familiarize myself with the basic process before I go making it more complicated.

Even though I am NOT a morning person, I got up at 6 am this morning to make some soap

I haven't found the time in the evenings after work so after DH left for work I started on it. I used soapcalc and put together my own recipe. I figured out a 1.5 lb batch makes a perfect pringles can full. Here was my recipe:

6 oz palm oil
6 oz 76 deg coconut oil
7.2 oz olive oil pomace
2.88 oz castor oil
0.72 oz grapeseed oil
1.2 oz walnut oil

I only had .5 oz of jasmine FO so I used that and .5 oz of honey almond FO at what I perceived to be light trace. I think the honey almond really brought out the jasmine scent. We will see how it turns out
