SOB save our birds

I did read the LA Times story. I'm sorry to see the hysteric with no regard for public health quoted so frequently. But I was glad they also referred to others with more public spirited perspectives.

The LA Times is far more responsible than the Valley News that just parrots her fear mongering.

I'll tell you what I find disturbing, IF someone in the same scenario was wrong about their birds not being contaminated or IF a single bird who evaded examination was infected or IF such a person was harboring sick birds out of stubbornness or some wacky conspiracy theory or because they planned to fight them and thought they didn't have much time left anyway or didn't think they could afford to replace them or any reason really, 5 months is a l-o-n-g window for someone else's flock to get contaminated.

This is a terrible situation for all of us in the quarantine zone. Kerri's individual case may have been handled very badly, but I don't think, in principle, taking the selfish position that an individual and their flock is more important than all the other flocks who can get infected is helpful or supportable. Nor is it practical given the number of individual flock-owners and commercial operations that are vulnerable and need protecting.

Have you euthanized your flock?

I think what gets overlooked over and over was that Kerri could have saved her flock by keeping them cooped up and contained from exposure which she did not do. She was reported by someone because she allowed her birds to wander and not just in her yard. Don't get me wrong. I am sad for her children and very sad for everyone else who have lost their birds but in Kerri's case often only her side is told.

A friend of mine is painting memorial portraits for some of the owners. The most touching to me is portrait of a young man's emotional support goose.

whats your point??

I think some people have no clue how large an area southern CA is. San Bernardino County to name a part of it is the largest county in the lower 48. The entire region is larger than some states, e.g. Missouri. You can be in so Cal and out of the quarantine zone or an hour and a half away by freeway from the euthanization zone and still be in the quarantine zone. This is part of the complexity of the situation.

It doesn't matter whether they're cooped-up or free ranged, they all get killed. You could keep them inside your house 24/7 and they'd still be killed.

that's not my understanding from the LA Times article and certainly Kerri cannot and does not argue she kept her birds locked up and away from wild birds, right?

In any case I am over posting to this issue in anyway. I removed myself frim it once and for peace of mind need to leave it again.
