Hello All,

I am pretty new to chickens and seem to have a problem, well one chicken seems to have a problem. One lays soft eggs. It always has. It has access to oyster shell and eats crushed egg shells but must not absorb the calcium correctly or what ever. The problem is; this chicken has a broken soft egg hanging out of it! I am not sure how to help it or even if I can. It happened this morning. I think it was on the nest when the wind blew the door shut and scared the egg out of it. Seriously though if anyone has a suggestion I am open to ideas.
Thanks,

Welcome to BYC. If you canpull the soft membrane out, then take a tablespoonful of white vinegar and a cup of water. Take a syringe and squirt a small amount into her vent as a kind of flush to help keep downinfection since this is how egg yolk peritonitis can get started. Repeat the flush after she has had time to get rid of it in a few minutes.
