soft egg shells question

2 of my 20 week old Sapphire gems just laid first eggs with very soft shells. I had to give one of my early layers a calcium +D supplement when she had laid a soft shelled egg. My question today is can I feed my girls mushrooms? They are high in Vitamin D and I would rather my girls get their nutrients naturally rather than chemically. I did supplement them with calcium +D tablet in some Greek yogurt this morning. In the winter here we get less than ideal sunlight (less than 9 hours of daylight) and mostly overcast skies more than sunny days. Most humans here where I live are Vitamin D deficient including myself, so this will probably be a continual need for my girls also

Sometimes with new layers, their bodies just need time to work out the kinks. Are you giving them free choice oyster shell in addition to their regular feed?

cod liver oil sprinkled over their food might be a better source of vit d for them.
Thank you I will look into that. They are just such picky girls, sometimes they just refuse new things added to their food. my girls used to eat the mushrooms growing in the yard ( tried to keep them away from them as I didn't know if they were poisonous to them)
