My barred rock, Olive, layed her very first two eggs! Only problem was that they are soft and have a membrane, but no shell. Upon doing research, I found that it’s most likely just a small calcium deficiency that can be fixed very easily. but I would like to know: what kind of shells did you guys use for your hen? Oyster? Leftover eggshells? And what are your first experiences with them? Do’s and Don’t’s?

Not unusual for new layers to lay a few softies.
Can take up to a month for things to totally smooth out.

What all and how exactly are you feeding?
I feed and 'all flock' type feed(higher protein, lower calcium than layer feed),
and have a separate small feeder with both oyster shell and crushed chicken egg shell.

They usually get feed, scratch, and layer pellets along with treats like mealworms and corn. They eat the same things but Olive’s a little more picky with some stuff (she doesn’t like hard corn only soft/sweet corn, doesn’t eat the egg laying pellets I give them, etc)
I’m not that worried about it when I did a little more research, and she was pretty normal after laying them

What is the "feed"...protein and calcium percentages?
.....and how much of each of these things do you feed how many birds?
I'd at least cut out the scratch and corn.
The feed is the usual run of the mill stuff and is mixed with the egg laying pellets. The scratch has all different kinds of stuff that my other girl, Shadow, has and she lays perfect brown eggs.

What are the percentages of the 'feed'.....also the layer pellets.
Can you post pics of those too?
The bag got thrown away after a dog got into the feed and ripped it open. Ended up putting it into an empty container with a lid. I asked my dad what it was and he said it was leftover chick feed that was used for the two younger girls in the flock. The layer pellet bag was also thrown away after favoring a large container over the bag (I had nothing to do with the bags getting thrown away). since she’s not laid any eggs since, I plan on waiting a couple weeks to see if anything happens.
