Soft egg

I was wondering...I have a new layer and she was laying double yolk eggs (about 1 every other day) for 2 wks and then her eggs got soft, almost gooey. She then started for a day or two just kinda squatting and having runny eggs come out. I got her some oyster shells and she's been on them for about a week. We haven't seen an egg from her in about a week. Anything I should be concerned with here? Does she just need to get better?

Thanks so much

I had a hen do something similar, new layer and she started hanging out in the coop with her tail turned down and being very quiet. By the time I noticed the runny eggs coming out of her vent she was in serious trouble....my diagnosis was that she was eggbound, at least that is what I tried treating her for but nothing worked, she died anyway......

Hope you have a much more positive experience.

Thanks Chris for the information but I just need to know if there is a brand of feed that will supply all the nutritional needs to my four chickens. I have had them about two months and when I got the grown hens they were each producing an egg a day. Now, I'm getting two to three eggs a day and one soft egg. I am new to this so I placed placed ground egg shells in one bowl, feed pellets in the feeder and oyster shell in another bowl. I hand feed them some corn scratch feed as well. Periodically I do put a few shovels of dirt in the cage but nothing I do seems to be working. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Nana
