Today I found a couple eggs from (I presume) a new layer in my flock. They were together on the poop board under the roost instead of in a nesting box. I worked 12 hours yesterday so didn't get to collect eggs, as the sun had already set and hens were in bed for the night when I got home. I'm assuming they are from the same bird, but can't say for certain. I think I remember reading this can happen with a new layer? All my other new layers haven't had any issues with weak/non-existent shells, so this is a first for me. I am feeding layer feed, they free-range a lot, and I have crushed oyster shell out in the run. Should I be worried at all? Is there anything else I can do, it will her body eventually figure it out?

I found 2 more side by side on the poop board yesterday, so I'm wondering if it's 2 different birds? Hoping they figure it out soon!

I agree with @feedman77 and @percheron chic. I'm only 9 moneys into Chickens, but most seem to start off week. I believe it's usually the ones on the bottom of the pecking order. It will sort out, but having oyster shells or crushed egg shells in a separate feeder will help get them up to speed.

New layers can bounce back and forth between rubber eggs, really small and then really big double yokes.
I've been getting an occasional white egg from one of my sex-link newbies and she has been laying for a few months.

I actually enjoy it, gets kinda routine once they figure it all out.
