Soft eggs with tails for last few weeks

They (8 birds) get maybe a cup or two of meal worms when I get home from work. Sometimes they get some veggie peelings, carrot or zucchini, maybe twice a week. A random apple every few months. In the summer they get frozen watermelon or berries on super hot days. If molting I might offer a few tablespoons of tuna fish a few times a week.
A cup or two is too much. Stop daily treats.

The occasional tomato ends too. I’m trying to rack my brain. They get snacks but I research everything to make sure it’s safe. I never give them spoiled food. Just the end of stuff we cut off and don’t want so it’s just as fresh as our dinner. Lettuce, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber. Half the time they don’t eat the skins cause they’d rather have the meet of the veggie. I get them zoodles if they are sale. But it’s not excessive.
Giving them more than about a tablespoon each with of anything besides the complete balanced feed is taking away from them getting a complete balanced diet.

Not getting a balanced diet causes issues.
Could be the cause of this.

Thank you. I’m really beating myself up that I did something wrong. This means a lot.
Hi, probably not! This just means I'm watching this thread so I'll get alerts when there is any activity on it. I'm following along so I can learn what happens as the situation develops. I have never had a hen lay an egg like this, but you never know when something like this may occur, so I'm hoping to follow along and learn what I can. I hope your hen gets squared away real soon and all turns out well for her and you both! :hugs

Please don't beat yourself up. It's difficult to not give them treats when they're so cute and we love them. Treats are one thing that all chickens love, so it's easy to give them more than they need. I was guilty of it and even now I struggle some days when I just want to give them too much because they're cute! I try to keep whatever I'm giving them in a bowl and make sure to give each one some so they all get in on the goodies. That's the only way I can refrain from over treating. You're not alone. I wish you the best with your girl. Hopefully she'll start laying normal eggs again and that'll be all there is to it.

You said we will all be in this together...that just means a lot. I always want to learn if it can benefit my girls.

I always try and spread it out so everyone gets a share and not give too much to one. I even pull aside the bottom girl and give her a few bites. I don’t think I give them too much..maybe the light was too much I don’t know if I’ve meant to have animals I get entirely too upset.

Since you are following I just wanted to give an update....

since you are following I wanted to give an update. Toxie has been on antibiotics since Saturday evening. Friday and Saturday we did get two weird soft eggs one with a tail. The vet called and said those two eggs were probably formed prior to antibiotic therapy. She hasn’t laid since that I know of, (maybe she had a softie and ate it) she looks great, bright comb, no weight loss I can’t tell of. Acts normal bossing around her flock, scratching eating, pooping, drinking. So perhaps this was just a bacterial issue. I am hoping this is the case.
