Soft eggs with tails for last few weeks

Something that is not widely known/mentioned is that high salt intake can cause eggs without shells. So careful with the table scraps. Diluting them in water helps, if they are salty.

Other than that give her calcium supplements and wait. I have a similar issue at them moment, but I can;t catch which one from the flock is doing it. I started sprinkling calcium on top of their feed a couple days ago, we'll see how it goes.

It’s really weird because she is avoiding any calcium. I sprinkled some on scrambled eggs and she won’t eat them. I give them oyster shells and crushed egg shells which she used to love and now she turns up her beak at it. They haven’t gotten table scraps for a few weeks now. Thank right after I wrote last night she laid another funny egg. I thought it was a lash egg, but it was just a slightly more formed shell all squished up. No pus or smelly substance. It had just come out broken. Let me know how your hen fairs too, please keep me posted.

Since you are following I just wanted to give an update....

since you are following I wanted to give an update. Toxie has been on antibiotics since Saturday evening. Friday and Saturday we did get two weird soft eggs one with a tail. The vet called and said those two eggs were probably formed prior to antibiotic therapy. She hasn’t laid since that I know of, (maybe she had a softie and ate it) she looks great, bright comb, no weight loss I can’t tell of. Acts normal bossing around her flock, scratching eating, pooping, drinking. So perhaps this was just a bacterial issue. I am hoping this is the case.
Thanks for the update. She looks good, hope she does well!
