I have one hen that lays a soft egg about every other day or so. I don't know if she has ever layed an egg with a hard shell. Any suggestions?

I am giving her oyster shells as much as possible.... i don't think i can shove it in her beak

Quote:When you say this, do you see her eating them, or is it that it's there & you assume she's eating them? I would separate her if possible & give her free choice. I feed mine eggshells back to them free choice, but periodically I also mix them in with wet food, whether it's scraps or pellets.
I'm sure somone else with more experience will chime in on this soon.

Is she a new layer? I had several soft shell eggs when my hens started laying. It took a few weeks for their systems to mature.
