Soft eggs!!!

I have two light Sussex. Just started laying in recent days. The eggs today have been soft. I'm feeding layers pellets and they free range my garden most evenings! Should I be adding grit or is this normal early on? If so what ratio of grit and pellets?

Grit can be supplied free choice. They are likely finding it themselves free ranging.

Soft eggs are normal for a first time. Supply them with oyster shell. Oyster shell is not grit.

I offer oyster shell and grit separately from the feed (and from each other) so they only take the amount they feel they need. I agree, a soft shelled egg when a pullet starts laying is normal, as are some other oddities. it usually takes them about a month to get in the seing of egg laying.
