I found this in one of my nesting boxes. Its empty, flattened and feels very leathery. I was thinking soft shell egg but not sure. Any idea whats wrong here?
I only have 2 layers and they eat layer crumble and oyster shell and are free range during the day.

I've been getting those, too. I have 14 pullets & only 5 are laying, 3 of them regularly. I think it's just part of the learning to lay process.

They've been laying good eggs, so this stumped me.

Maybe a snake might have payed its eggs near te coop and maybe a hatchling might have left its shell there

It doesn't look like a snake egg. There would be multiple eggs if a snake had been there. I had 2 or 3 of those weird eggs. I think my pullets ate them + they were laid on the poop tray filled with PDZ, which made them dry out. They looked exactly like the picture the OP posted.
