My 1.5 year old maran has always had poopy bump since she was a chick. She’s the only one of our 6 that poops on her eggs. I went to trim her butt feathers today and noticed this lump about an inch or two below her vent. There are no feathers growing around it which seems odd.
Any idea what it might be? Should I treat it?
It’s squishy.

If it is below the vent, I am a bit stumped as to what that lump is. It might be fat or a cyst, but I am not sure. I remember having a hen once who always had a soiled egg every other day for years. She was the only one, and her vent wasn’t dirty. It can be aggravating, but hopefully your hen doesn’t have a serious problem. Maybe others will chime in with opinions.

Did you ever figure out what it was? My hen has the same thing but we’re thinking it might be an infected or clogged feather duct.

If you gently press on it in an upward motion toward the vent, what (if anything) happens? Does anything come out the vent? Does she protest, either physically or vocally?

I plucked a couple feathers surrounding the area and also tried to drain it. This bright orange liquid came out. It shrunk quite a bit after the draining/plucking. But I think you're right... I think it is a clogged feather duct!
