Soft Section of Egg Shell

Just thought I'd throw this out there in case someone else happens to have the same problem, or maybe to keep someone from having it. It isn't a biggie or anything, but I learned not to use foam padding for a nest today. Actually, I didn't intend for it to be an egg nest. I have an old camper that was given to me and I am using it as a chicken house. It had some extra foam padding in it for the beds, and I just put them up on the top bunk out of the way until a later time. Well, a couple of the girls started laying eggs there the other day which seemed fine. But then today when I got the two eggs, one of them had a wet soft spot and the eggs was pushed in. The other egg was a little wet and looked like it was starting to go soft. I think that when they lay there must be some moisture that comes out with it, and the moisture soaked up into the foam under the egg. And since it had been there awhile, it made the egg soft. So, unless you are getting your eggs pretty soon after being laid, you might not want to use foam.
