hi i woke up today to find an egg with a soft shell on the floor of the run ,,and ive got one hen whos been sittng in her nest for the last 3 hours that i know of,,ive only got 2 hens in the coop ,i feed them on layer pellets and grit which has got shells in it,ive never had this problem,, do you think the soft egg has got something to do with the hen staying in her nest,,or could she just be going broody,,ive checked for lice ,,cant see anything,,ps ive put a bowl of cooked egg with crushed shells next to her for a bit of extra calcium and protien,,should that help ???

That should help a bit.
If she's laying softshelled eggs, she may be very uncomfortable and it's hard to get that egg out. Like when we're constipated.
Broody's are more likely to puff up at you and scream.
