Soft shell egg, 1st time.

Tonight we went out to secure the girls in their coop. 2 were still outside and one was posturing like we've never seen before. I said to my husband that she appeared constipated. The other hen was circling her and nosing around her rear end. Then after a few times of her odd posture out popped a soft shell egg. The two of them went nuts eating it all. We haven't ever seen our hens actually lay so guess that's how it's down. I just though it was something else that one could tell there was something up with the other. I believe that's a natural occurrence from time to time but if not would someone please let me know. Thanks! Have a great night

Soft shell eggs do occur occasionally, and they usually get eaten by my hens too. It's okay. Make sure they have access to enough calcium. Offer some oyster shell and feed crushed egg shells back to them.

Am betting this has happened before, why the other bird knew what was up.
