Soft shell egg laid from the roost at night?

Same thing happened here yesterday--my 3 girls just started laying about a month ago & their eggs just started getting bigger. They have always laid in their nests but yesterday I found a soft egg under the roost. I think it was an oops! that slipped through.

Our girls have been laying now for a short time. We've gotten 16 eggs so far, one of our girls, Gertie, has been laying double yolkers but today, finally laid a normal, itty bitty egg :). But...as I was cleaning the roost, I noticed an egg and ewwww, it was soft and mushy lol. Someone had an oops overnight!

I have a white leghorn about 1 1/5 years old has laid a soft shell egg four days in a row while on the roost .The eggs is broke up.They are feed 22% layer and oyster shells at their will. These are my first chickens .Any ideas

My mixed flock started laying last week at 23 weeks. I am fairly sure they all (5 of them) have laid at least one egg, but one chicken. I have been checking in the morning and again in the afternoon as their egg cycle gets accustomed, and tonight I found a soft, semi transparent egg also. I am hoping this is the last one to start and then now will be 100% but will see tomorrow. The rest all laid hard shell right from egg one. Good chickens.

Does the weather play a role when they lay as today was a cold snap in February after unseasonably warm weather in the 60's. Also have one broody now. Too funny. Laying for a week and thinks she wants to be a Mom.

I had one of five that laid malformed eggs at startup including soft shelled, for about two or three weeks. I was feeding layers feed which contains calcium at the time. I added oyster shell about a week later. Don't know if she just needs extra calcium or if it would've straightened out without the extra calcium. But I still offer it in a separate container.

Five pounds lasted four months for five pullets. GC

My girls are exactly (to the day, almost) one year old. My New Hampshire Red has laid three soft shelled eggs lately, the first of which was from the roost. She laid one tiny shelled egg in between the softies. Not sure if it's because I gave her egg shell and calcium +D3 the night before. The trouble is, she acts like she doesn't feel well when it's time to lay a soft egg. I even brought her in to the avian vet, but she looked great and had that tiny firm egg inside at time, so he was not concerned. She acts completely normal except when it's time to lay a soft egg. At those times, she lowers and bobs her tail, sometimes closing her eyes a little, like she's egg bound. The softies are harder to lay (nothing to push on), and one came out broken (she passed white, then yolk, then soft shell). The silly girl refuses oyster shell, but loves egg shell. They are on the organic layer crumble from Costco. None of her sisters are having issues (not including my molter, who isn't laying.) I would like to try a calcium with D3 supplement. Gave her some human calcium with D3 by crushing it and sprinkling a little on her favorite treat of scramble egg, but don't want to fry her kidneys. I'll be looking for something meant for chickens.
