Soft Shelled Egg

I have a newly laying BCM pullet. She has laid 3 beautiful, dark brown eggs. Today she laid a "soft shelled" egg. They are on an all flock feed with free choice oyster shells. Is this soft shelled egg just her working out the kinks of being a new layer?

My dominant coppers (bcm hybrid) had soft shells occasionally for several weeks. Keep close eye out and make sure it’s not a consistent issue.

Not unusual for new layers to have some glitches as they ramp up.

I checked again last night before locking up and found another soft shell egg but from a different chicken. This would have been the first egg from that one. She's a Blue Copper Marans.

Are they eating the OS?
Sometimes new layers don't 'get it'.
When this happened here I sprinkled some around on the ground with their scratch treat.
Also sprinkled just a bit on top of the feed in the trough.
Also sprinkled just a bit of scratch grains on top of the OS feed trough.

I have for sure seen the BCM eat the OS. I've seen others eat it as well but can't say for sure they all have. Thank you for the suggestions. I will try that!

Instead of OS I've left egg shells out a day or 2 to dry and crunched them up.
My best improvement was when I found feed from a feed mill that was complete. I haven't had to supplement in over a year and shells are better than when I did.

I mix egg shells in with the OS.
By complete feed do you mean a layer formulation that has 3-4% calcium added?
Some of us don't use layer feed because we have males and other non layers...
...and like the higher protein levels int he 'all-flock' formulations.

I am definitely in the 3-4% calcium area. So far no issues with my rooster. I went full specialty with a non soy recipe from a perdue specialist my feed mill managed to get. It uses (I think) limestone as a calcium source.

Added, I also had non soy broiler feed and raised 25 CX. They taste great.
