soft shelled egg

I know i know, use the search. But cant ya just give me your expert opinions instead??? =O)

my newest hen laid a soft egg today. (she did travel 3 hours to get here). could it have been stress? they are eating layer feed and no one else laid soft shelled eggs.


help!!

she may not have been getting enough calcium in her diet. make sure she has access to oyster shell.

it could be from illness or stress also. keep your eye peeled.

i'd give her and the rest of your flock some oyster shells whenever they want it.

Be patient. It could be a lot of things, stress, age lack of something. chances are it is just a one-time thing.

I have one hen that started laying in Nov,. and she has lain soft shelled eggs off and on since,. She has oyster shells mixed in her layer pellets and there is no undue stress. I think sometimes it is just the way the hen is. Some are good layers and some have trouble with it. Their hormones or something is not quite right. She has been tested for all kinds of things and is neg.
She eats well and acts happy enough too. I just ignore it and go on.
Sometimes they will have trouble when they first start and then settle off. Since This one is a brahma mix she was a little slow to lay and I know that she is not fully her size yet. Maybe this will change.

thanks, i just had a perfect hard shelled one yesterday night.... so not sure what the heck happened.
