soft shelled egg

we got our first soft shelled egg today. our girls are still fairly new to laying. this is the first time we have had this. 2 questions: a. is the egg edible? b. is this a sign that they are missing something or is it just possibly the first time mishap?

Yes you can still eat it as long as you cook it well and if they are new layers, it's just a mistake.
