Thanks for the link -- yes, I do have it already and have looked at those poor eggs, mine look even worse. I read about the other possibilities but didn't want to think about them -- if I could manage to hold Lucy long enough to bathe her or do anything else, I would have -- she's the only girl I can pick up but can't hold her for long, (and guess I've possibly been saved from a softshell in the lap!
) -- haven't even tried to look at her vent but my mind did go to prolapsed uterus, etc. too -- can't really help it, can we? They're my pets first and foremost and it's automatic to worry about the little critters, isn't it!
A while ago I mixed up a concoction of some of my fruit-flavored Tums, Greek yogurt, some English oats and a slight bit of powdered non-fat milk -- faannncy! Lucy got the bulk of it but the other girls wanted some too and I ended up hand-feeding so I could regulate and make sure Lucy got the most -- needlesstosay, they were all chewing my fingers off! I must say I felt real good getting most of that into Lucy!!! Like getting broth or chicken soup into an ailing human (well, we won't mention the chicken soup where the girls can hear).
I'm glad to hear you think what I'm feeding them is good, I always hope that I'm not giving them something bad -- do have to admit to the odd piece of whole wheat bread now and again! I AM going to give them mostly their laying crumbles and pellets with the OS flour and cut back on other treaty stuff a bit till I see what happens. I'm also happy to hear what you think about giving them their own egg shells -- I save all the shells from the eggs I eat and then add them to the compost bin, but I think I'll bake them and smash them finely and sprinkle them about too. They certainly do love scrambled eggs which is what I give them if I can save anything from the softshelled or fallen eggs.......or just as an extra treat now and then.
Thank you so very much for the "hand holding" through this -- I'm feeling much more in control with my new information, and hope we won't see those softshells for much longer!
