I was on vacation for a week and had someone keeping an eye on my girls for me. When I got home today I found my first two eggs!!! They eather came from my barred rock or my BO. But the shells were very soft. So I switched them to a layer feed. How long will it take for the shells to start to firm up?

The feed probably won't make a difference, they'd firm up anyway. New layers, even those on layer feed and/or oyster shell, etc, often just forget to put the shell on the eggs. It's within the realm of normal, along with double yolks, no yolks, shells with ridges/lumps/bumps, very sporadic laying, etc.

Yeh u can purchase oyster shell grit in poultry stores wich contains all the good calcium they need for there eggs

I seen that. But it's only sold in 50 lb bags around here and it looks like the layer feed has everything they need so I took that route instead. Thanks for the help though.

Now my barred rock climbed into the same box with the BO and there both layin in the same box at the same time. Is this a problome?
